Fabergé has launched its new Heritage Yellow Gold Diamond and Guilloché Enamel Bee Surprise Locket to its Heritage collection.

The Heritage collection celebrates the brand’s “passion for surprise” and showcases “complex traditional techniques”, such as the art of guilloché enamelling and hand-engraving.

Following the launch of the Bee Surprise Locket, Fabergé also announced its partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and for every piece sold the brand will donate $1,350 (£1111.2) to the foundation, to finance actions of its Forests and Communities Initiative (FCI) that has been launched.

The FCI supports the conservation of forest ecosystems through the action of indigenous peoples and local communities and the development of a supportive network of actors providing a range of multidisciplinary expertise.

The Heritage Yellow Gold Diamond and Guilloché Enamel Bee Surprise Locket is crafted in 18k Yellow Gold and painted with a peach coloured guilloché enamel.

The little bee itself is painted in black and orange lacquer and sits upon a yellow agate stone platform, with subtle honeycomb engraving.

The outer case of the egg locket features 15 round brilliant-cut white diamonds.

Peter Carl Fabergé was known for crafting little animals from hardstone as charms and ornaments.

Art historians have described these creations – the Fabergé menagerie – as possessing “psychologically interpretive aspects”, or human-like qualities.

Fabergé often combined these hardstones with precious metals and coloured gems, to produce miniature works of art.

Sarah Fabergé, director of Special Projects and Founding Member of The Fabergé Heritage Council, said: “I am delighted that we are partnering with the Prince Albert II Foundation in the launch of our new Bee Surprise Locket. Fabergé’s nature studies are a significant part of our history. Today, bees, such small creatures, play a significant and integral part of our survival.”
