Jewellery brand Monica Vinader has been recertified with the Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark, which recognises companies that meet sustainability standards across environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.
To achieve certification, brands must score at least 50% in Positive Luxury’s independent ESG+ assessment. Monica Vinader recorded 64% in environment, 88% in social and 77% in governance.
The company’s responsible sourcing is central to its sustainability strategy. All of its Tier 1 (direct manufacturing) and Tier 2A (major component) suppliers have signed its Supplier Code of Conduct, with annual third-party audits carried out to assess labour conditions, environmental management and business ethics.
In 2024, the brand introduced its first fully traceable gemstone collection, Odyssey, using aquamarine from the Zimbaqua mine in Zimbabwe. The collection followed a bespoke mining audit developed with consultancy SCS.
Monica Vinader’s blockchain-based Product Passport programme, launched in 2022, now covers more than 600 items, up from 50 at launch, and provides customers with details of sourcing and production.
The brand, a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council, first received the Butterfly Mark in 2021 after switching to 100% recycled silver.
It has also won Positive Luxury’s Responsible Luxury Business of the Year award annually since 2022.
Positive Luxury said: “This recertification recognises Monica Vinader’s ongoing progress in embedding sustainability into every aspect of their business – from their approach to climate and biodiversity, to how they champion human rights and inclusive supplier relationships.
“This achievement is the result of rigorous assessment against our ESG+ framework, demonstrating measurable impact and clear actions for continuous improvement.”
