Christie’s posts auction sales of $490m in 2018

The most notable sale of the year was the Winston Pink Legacy - an 18.96 carat fancy pink diamond that was sold for $50.3m (ยฃ35m)

Global auction house Christieโ€™s has announced its jewellery auction sales this year totalled $492.4m (ยฃ389m).

Christie’s also revealed that $7.8m (ยฃ6.1m) of that was achieved through online auctions. The most notable sale of the year was the Winston Pink Legacy – an 18.96 carat fancy pink diamond that was sold for $50.3m (ยฃ35m) at its Geneva auction in November.

This was followed up by the sale of an 8 carat pear-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond necklace and a cushion-cut fancy vivid blue diamond ring, also 8 carats, by Bulgari which sold for $20.4m (ยฃ16.1m) and $18.3m (ยฃ14.4m) respectively.

Rahul Kadakia, international head of Jewelry Christieโ€™s, said: โ€œWe are delighted to announce that Christieโ€™s maintains its position as the jewelry market leader for the 25th consecutive year.
