Some 70% of the diamonds on engagement rings given in 2025 were lab-grown, an increase of 14% from 2024, according to a report from Taylor and Hart.
As a result of this, the average carat weight has climbed to 1.75ct, compared with 1.30ct the

The data signals a shift toward conscious luxury, driven by new production technologies that allow people to choose larger diamonds than ever before within the same price point.
Meanwhile, oval cuts now represent nearly half of all diamond shapes sold, replacing round as the leading cut of diamond.
According to Taylor and Hart, the rise of ovals reflects the intersection of practical and cultural drivers providing“better value, a more flattering look on the hand, and steady celebrity visibility that keeps the shape front of mind for modern couples”.
Furthermore, it said yellow gold now represents 55% of all selections, replacing platinum reflecting a resurgence that aligns with a “broader move toward styles that feel personal, distinctive and visually striking–appeal”.
