Jewellery brand Matt Aminoff has reported an increasing number of requests for both highly elaborate and unusual pieces of pearl jewellery over the past six months.
According to the group, shows like ‘The Crown’ on Netflix and the recent movie release of Mary Queen of Scots has shown burgeoning demand for highly classic pieces of jewellery such as multi-strand (3-5 row) cultured pearl collars.
Since demand grew for pearl items resembling those popularised by such films and TV shows, the jewellers has expanded its production of 2, 3 and 5-row pearl collars both with and without significant diamond content, alongside its regular production of fine one-off pieces of jewellery.
Ari Aminoff, of Matt Aminoff jewellery, said: “Though The Crown has been on Netflix since 2016, it is only in the past year we as manufacturers have noticed the demand for jewellery worn by Claire Foy in the popular series.”
A statement by the group read: “Speaking regularly with our Japanese pearl suppliers, it is evident that the demand for Japanese Akoya pearls from the Chinese market has risen significantly in recent years.
“The result of course is that prices have increased across the board and the task of procuring quality material at the right time has become more challenging. We therefore carry out buying trips to Japan more frequently throughout the year in order to satisfy the requirements of all our customers.”
