Tiffany and Co. has announced the launch of its latest Bird on a Pearl high jewellery capsule collection, which it said reimagines its ‘iconic’ Bird on a Rock first designed by Jean Schlumberger in 1965.
The foundation of the pieces are natural saltwater pearls acquired from the private collection of Mr Hussein Al Fardan, a leading authority on the gemstone. Tiffany and Co. remains the only jewellery house in the world granted the privilege to use Al Fardan’s collection, which it said reinforces its commitment to using pearls in their designs.
Created under the visionary direction of Tiffany and Co. artistic officer Nathalie Verdeille, the capsule debuts the new ‘star sapphire head’ design. On some of the designs, these sapphires are paired with coloured diamonds integrated into the bird’s silhouette.
Tiffany and Co. said its Bird on a Pearl brooch reenvisions a midcentury Jean Schlumberger brooch. The house added that the new piece preserves key elements from the original, including 18k gold ‘flames’ and features an ‘exceedingly rare’ light orangey-brown and white baroque natural pearl of over 36 carats.
