American music artist Lady Gaga is suing American Company Excite Worldwide LLC for trying to use her name on a number of products without her permission.
The company, which had planned to market a variety of jewellery products under the names ‘Lady Gaga’ and ‘Lady Gaga LG’, has made applications to the US Patent and Trademark Office in order to secure the trademarks. It is understood that these have been rejected, however the singer is continuing to proceed with the lawsuit, hoping to prevent Excite from filing other Lady Gaga related applications. She is also seeking unspecified financial damages for claims that the company was “cashing in on her fame by using her name.”
The singer has recently registered a number of her own trademarks and the lawsuit, filed last week, says “customers could be duped into thinking she’s affiliated with Excite Worldwide’s products.”
