Vivid Yellow diamond sells for $6.6 millionThe pear-shaped fancy Vivid Yellow diamond, weighing approximately 32.77 carats and estimated to achieve between $6 and $8 million (£3.8 and £5 million) was bought by an anonymous bidder at Christie’s New York for $6.6 million dollars (£4.1 million).

Head of jewellery Rahul Kadakia commented: “At $201,000 (£127,251) per carat, the 32.77 carats Vivid Yellow diamond achieved a sensational price, mirroring the $203,000 (£128,456) per carat realised by the Golden Drop of 18.49 carats at Christie’s London back in 1990. Having set the stage for our fall season, we look forward to our November 16 jewellery auction in Geneva.

“Despite recent volatility in the financial markets, the jewellery world continues to hold strong with active participation from top private collectors and members of the trade for superb gems and jewels.”
