To honour its continued success over the past five years, the prime warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company joined operational staff and senior managers from the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office and Brink’s Global Services for a glass of champagne and a celebratory cake.

Having opened in 2008, the sub-office remains the only off-site airport-based assay office in the United Kingdom. This state-of-the-art hallmarking facility is situated within the secure premises of Brink’s Global Services at Heathrow Airport, and offers customers importing items from overseas a through-packet service from plane to distribution.

Kevin Bowles, manager of the Heathrow sub-office, said: “The industry we work in has changed dramatically since I joined the assay office 35 years ago. We have had to adapt to those changes in order to survive – one of the biggest being an increase in the amount of imported goods. Opening an office at Heathrow alongside Brink’s has allowed us to stay ahead of the game and provide our customers, old and new, with an unparalleled through-service for their imported goods – whilst still applying the famous ‘leopards head’ mark of London.”

Since it opened, the sub-office has hallmarked almost 5,000,000 articles.
