Midlands-based jewellers Lumbers has opened its new store following a £1m relocation and refurbishment.

The move, which was announced earlier this year, sees the jewellery retailer move from its 6,500 sq ft store which it occupied for 15 years on Market Street in Leicester, to a new 16,000 sq ft store on the city’s high street.

The new shop is spread across three floors and includes a retail area, office space and a VIP section which consists of a kitchen, champagne bar and entertainment areas for guests.

Lumbers said that it wanted to create a new space which would increase its offering to its customers, as well as act as an “exciting place for the people of Leicester to embrace”.

The larger space, which has taken on a more modern look, has helped to make way for a number of luxury brands to be added to the store’s offering which currently includes Chopard, Breitling and Tag Heuer.

The move marks only the third relocation for Lumbers since its creation in 1881. Originally the store was founded in Loseby Lane, Leicester, moved to Granby Street in 1915 and then to Market Street 35 years ago.
