Two men have been arrested following a burglary at a Colchester jewellers in the early hours of Thursday morning (20 October).

Police were called to Ernest Jones in Shewall Walk, Culver Square, at around 2:45am on Thursday, 20 October, after reports that burglars had repeatedly struck display windows in a bid to break the reinforced glass and get to the store’s diamond displays.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers from Essex Police found the window of the shop had been broken and items from the display had been taken. It is not yet clear how much was taken by the raiders.

A spokesperson from Ernest Jones confirmed the burglary: “At approximately 2.45am today [20 October], there was a burglary in Ernest Jones Colchester Store.”

A man in his fifties from Boxted and a man in his thirties from Colchester were arrested later the same day on suspicion of burglary. They were taken to Colchester Police station to be questioned by officers.

The store has reopened with a small section still cordoned off with police tape.
