Goldsmiths’ Company to launch ‘The Brooch Unpinned’ exhibition

Subject to government guidelines, the exhibit will celebrate the “art of the brooch” from 1961 to 2021

The Goldsmiths’ Company has announced it is preparing to open a free exhibition, ‘The Brooch Unpinned: The Goldsmiths’ Company Collection 1961-2021’, at the Goldsmiths’ Centre on 12 April 2021.

Subject to the government’s Covid-19 guidelines, the exhibit will celebrate the “art of the brooch” between 1961 and 2021 in Britain.

The exhibition will bring together 20 brooch pieces from the Goldsmiths Company’s collection and be fronted by some of the leading names in jewellery design, including Daphne Krinos, Jo Hayes Ward and Jacqueline Ryan.

Speaking about the importance of the exhibition, Dr. Dora Thornton, curator at the Goldsmiths’ Company, said: “From the early ’60s, the brooch became an art form – versatile, wearable and contemporary.”

Charlotte Dew, public programme manager at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with the Goldsmiths’ Company to present this extraordinary collection of brooches, that reveal outstanding design and craftsmanship, as well as exquisite beauty and innovation.”
