The Alkemistry, an independent fine jeweller, has launched an apprentice training scheme for female jewellery designers.
The year-long programme will provide apprentices with both practical skills and personal development to kick start their career in jewellery design.
Three female employees have been selected for the scheme, which is intended to break down what is โtypically a male-dominated industryโ.
Throughout the year, The Alkemistry is looking to expose the trainees to a range of practices, including piercing, computer aided design, the gemmology institute of America, casting, polishing, and plating.
Moreover, wider skills such as public speaking, communication skills, and mental health management will also be approached on the programme.
Kirsty Gibbs, founder of the company, said: โIt is a difficult industry for women to get into, whichlimit innovation or development of femaleย manufacturing capabilities.ย
โWith this in mind, The Alkemistry have taken matters into their own hands and created an apprenticeship scheme to help young women gain a deeper knowledge of jewellery,ย retailing and manufacturing.โ
She added that female empowerment is โat the heartโ of the brandโs operations, shown by the groupโs female designers, female-founded brands in stock, and โpredominantly female workforceโ.
