Christie’s New York Online sales nearly total £2.5m

Some 93% of items were sold by value at the auction, which had a 160% hammer above low estimate

Christie’s New York Online jewels sale saw sales total $3,407,375 (£2,455,290), as the auction achieved a record level of participation.

Some 93% of items were sold by value at the auction which represented a 160% hammer above low estimate.

The global participation from 26 countries, with 27% new buyers, contributed to the highest number of bidders for any New York jewels Online sale.

A sapphire and diamond ring represented the top lot of the sale after being bought for $75,000 (£54,047) against an estimate of $10,000 (£7,206).

Elsewhere, an emerald and diamond necklace sold for $50,000 (£36,031) and a suite of amethyst and diamond jewellery realised $25,000 (£18,015).

Signed jewels by Bvlgari, Cartier, David Webb, Elsa Peretti, JAR, and Van Cleef and Arpels also performed with “exceptional results” at the auction.
