The volume of jewellery hallmarked by the four UK assay offices fell by an average of 11% in November compared with the same period the previous year, according to figures compiled by the Birmingham Assay Office.
The average volume of gold pieces hallmarked fell by 12.1% to 492,537 compared with 560,402 the previous year. Palladium dropped by a marked 31.7%, platinum 10.1% and silver 9.8%.
Overall the volumes fell from 1,196,702 in November 2016 to 1,064,578 in November this year, one of the steepest drops in the last 12 months.
