W E Cro and Son has announced that it is set to close at the end of 28 March after 100 years of service.
The closure, after three generations of ownership, comes as Jim Cro and wife Carolyn have decided to retire.
Cro’s grandfather William Edward Cro took over the existing business in Sussex in 1924.
He began working in the store alongside his father, William Marchant Cro, in 1976 after finishing school.
Talking to The Argus, Jim Cro said: “Since then I have continued to run the business, and in 2020 my wife Carolyn joined me. We have served generations of local families and, since the news broke that I am retiring at the end of March, we have been overwhelmed with messages, stories, memories, and good wishes.”
“My retirement plans are to spend more time on my hobby of model engineering, travelling and spending precious time with my three grandchildren.”
