Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has auctioned an exclusive watch, with the entire proceeds going to the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition ‘The Last Flight’, designed to commemorate writer and pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was sold at Sotheby’s auction in Geneva for CHF40,000 (£26,322).
The entire proceeds of the watch went to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation who will use the funds to provide financial support to Pequeno Príncipe, a children’s hospital in Curitiba, Brazil, with plans to build a library in the hospital.
Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, said: “This auction is a part of our company’s social responsibility and a reinforcement of the humanist values championed by the famous French pilot and writer.
“In the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation we support an organization that has a huge international network and does an incredible amount for disadvantaged children with its local projects.”
