Northern Goldsmiths reopens following £1m refurbishment

Goldsmiths has reopened its Newcastle ‘flagship’ showroom following a £1m refurbishment.

Northern Goldsmiths, located in the city centre, unveiled its new-look showroom to the public earlier this month after two months of restoration which involved the 80-year-old 24ct gold leaf Rolex clock on the corner of the store being removed and reinstated.

Goldsmiths said the store worked alongside some of the luxury watch brands it supplies to create a series of shop-in-shops. This includes the extension of its Rolex boutique and also the introduction of an Omega boutique.

Meanwhile the first floor of the 12,000 sq ft property will now serve as a dedicated Goldsmiths services area dealing with client repairs, and offering additional customer seating and consultation space.

Craig Bolton, executive brand director for Goldsmiths said: “The task to refurbish some of the existing store fixtures has been particularly complex as many of them on display on the sales floor are listed. They have therefore had to be sympathetically restored in accordance with our local authority planning and listed building consent.

“While the historic aspects of the brand have been preserved, we’ve combined old and new with additional fixtures and fittings that have been carefully selected to enhance the look and feel of the showroom.”

Northern Goldsmiths is one of the most long-standing stores in the company’s portfolio and the only store to carry its own unique branding. One of four stores in the city, the property was once the head office to several of the company’s stores before its UK-wide expansion.

Goldsmiths, which recently announced the refurbishment of its Coventry showroom, is currently in the process of refitting over 40 of its stores across the UK.
