Gems of Time to return to SalonQP

Gems of Time, an exhibition celebrating the art and craft of high-jewellery watches, is set to return to SalonQP.

Building on the success of its inaugural exhibition last year, Gems of Time: The Art of Colour aims to explore the jewelled watch and will highlight the current mood for unique timepieces in precious and vibrant colours.

The exhibition will be on display in a dedicated space on the ground-floor of the Saatchi Gallery, showcasing high-art timepieces from renowned watch and jewellery houses including Bulgari, Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Gemfields, Backes & Strauss, and Harry Winston.

A collection of Gemfields’ rough and polished emeralds will also be incorporated into the exhibition.

Curated by Caragh McKay, watches editor at the Daily Telegraph, the exhibition is designed by Leila Latchin, editor-at-large of Wallpaper* magazine, and will be illustrated by Nuno Da Costa, whose work has featured in titles such as Vogue and the Sunday Times Style magazine.

McKay says: “Last year, for the first time, we were able to reveal a little known part of the world’s best-known high jewellery houses – the jewelled watch. This year gives us a brilliant opportunity to build on that, revealing further intricacies of the fascinating collaboration between the jeweller, setter and watchmaker.

“Together, they create awe-inspiring jewels rooted in a craft tradition but make them brilliantly modern by taking creative risks with artisanal techniques.”

The exhibition will also include an ‘in conversation with’ session with Sasha Slater, deputy editor of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, and McKay, who will debate the relevance of jewelled watches today.
