Chinese electronics company Huawei has announced the launch of its new smartwatch in the UK.

The Huawei Watch takes its design and inspiration from traditional wristwatches. It measures 42mm in diameter and has a fully circular face with the crown located at the two o’clock position.

Powered by Android Wear, the watch features a 1.4-inch touch-sensitive display, which is coated in scratch-proof sapphire crystal, a stainless steel frame, a 400 x 400 pixel resolution screen and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

Functions on the watch include instant alerts for calls, texts, instant messaging and emails, bluetooth connectivity with wireless headphones, offline music download support, voice commands to start and control music, ‘find my phone’ function and a heart rate monitor.

It comes in range of stainless steel and black frames, as well as a choice of 40 bespoke watch face designs. The choice of straps include black leather, stainless steel mesh and links.

Richard Jones, technology buyer at Selfridges, said: “Watches are an important part of our jewellery range and adding new premium smartwatches, such as the Huawei Watch, to this offering is the natural next step for us.

“We are confident that the Huawei Watch, with its premium, classic design, will be a popular item with our customers.”

The watch is initially exclusive to vMail, Selfridges and Google store, but will be available from a wider selection of stores from the end of November.
