A gang of armed raiders on mopeds raided a luxury jewellery store in London’s Mayfair district on Wednesday morning, just three weeks after it celebrated its opening.
The Metropolitan Police are now appealing for information and witnesses to come forward following the smash-and-grab incident at Time Machine on Avery Row at 10:15am on Wednesday, January 6.
Four males on two mopeds stopped outside the store, before the two passengers smashed their way into the front door with a sledgehammer. They then proceeded to shatter internal display cabinets with the sledgehammer and an axe, grabbing a range of high-end watches.
Police said that one man has been arrested in connection with the incident, while the three remaining suspects were last seen heading towards Bond Street on the two mopeds.
The suspects were described as wearing dark clothing and motorbike helmets throughout the robbery.
The store specialises in luxury watch and jewellery brands including Patek Philippe, Chopard, Cartier and IWC Schaffhausen, although police said that the value of the items stolen is currently unknown.
Detective Constable Kevin Parley, from the Met’s Flying Squad, said: “This was a brazen armed robbery carried out on a busy morning. Early indications are that the two moped drivers deliberately stayed on their mopeds to act as lookouts and dissuade members of the public from getting involved.”
He urged anyone with information to “immediately” contact the Flying Squad on 0208 785 8655 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
