Noel Hunter OBE has been appointed as the new chairman for the British Hallmarking Council.
Hunter said: “I am delighted to be elected to lead this prestigious and important body. Hallmarking verifies the integrity of some of the most precious items we possess, both on a personal and a monetary level.
“Without the ability to trust these precious items are what they say they are, our jewellery industry would be badly undermined.”
Hunter previously worked as a warden at the Birmingham Assay Office.
Hunter’s role will include ensuring that the UK retains its integrity and portability after Brexit. He will also make sure that the value of hallmarks are understood, as well as maintaining the reputation of the UK’s four assay offices.
