The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has announced that it has joined the UN Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Ambition platform.
Designed to accelerate the integration of the UN’s SDG by participating companies, the programme enables businesses to “step up transformative change” by unlocking business value, building business resilience, and enabling long-term growth.
As a member, RJC will support its 1,400 member organisations in prioritising actions to accelerate the jewellery industry’s contribution to the UN’s 2030 agenda.
Moreover, the partnership intends to deliver a positive impact on the livelihoods and communities that RJC member companies operate.
Sanda Ojiambo, executive director and CEO at the UNGC, said: “By engaging hundreds of companies across the world, this initiative is mobilising a truly global movement of responsible enterprises.
“This will accelerate progress towards embedding sustainability into business strategies and operations—which will benefit society as well as business.”
The move follows RJC’s April launch of a new SDG Taskforce, which will aim to create a unified platform to benchmark members’ progress in the implementation of the 17 UN SDGs.
