Gold hallmarking continues to drop, latest figures show

The number of gold articles hallmarked in the month of July showed that there was a 10.2% drop when compared to the same period last year.

There were 33,660 less gold items hallmarked bringing the total figure to 295,253 this year.

Silver was the only precious metal to show an increase with 32.2% more articles hallmarked, bring the total to 426,156 compared to the same period last year which had 322,433 hallmarked items.

Palladium and platinum both suffered a decreased, reporting a drop of 23.2% and 11.6% respectively.

Overall, the number of hallmarked articles were up by 9.4% when compared to July 2016.
