Bespoke jewellery designer Charlotte Cornelius Jewellery in Portsmouth has achieved the Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark.‌

Since 1998, Charlotte Cornelius Jewellery has used ethical and sustainable practices to create ‘Jewellery for Life’ under the creative and business leadership of its eponymous founder.

The brand has also incorporated circular economy into its business model, through creating jewellery that has the ability to be repaired, restored and remodelled for future generations.

To attain Butterfly Mark certification, companies must achieve a minimum score of 50% across Environmental, Social and Governance criteria in our rigorous independent assessment.

Charlotte Cornelius Jewellery achieved 59% in environment, 55% in social and 53% in governance.

‌According to Positive Luxury, the emphasis on purpose and action in sustainability has enabled Charlotte Cornelius Jewellery to achieve certification as a Butterfly Mark.

Other works that has resulted in the achievement of these scores include:

  • Implementation of a strategy for waste minimisation both in-house and for suppliers
  • A robust sustainable sourcing policy which ensures all gold is Fairtrade, and all diamonds are subject to the Kimberley Process Certification
  • Formal training for staff, including in discrimination and unconscious bias, in addition to providing staff with development and volunteering opportunities
