UK hallmarking unchanged in January

The number of pieces hallmarked by the four UK Assay Offices was flat with 0.0% growth in January 2024.
The number of silver pieces hallmarked dropped 5.9% from 375,891 in January 2023 down to 353,900 this year, a decline of 21,991.
Silver 958 dropped the most in the category, falling 72% from 2,150 pieces hallmarked last year compared to 603 this year.
On the other hand, the number of gold pieces hallmarked rose 9% year-on-year, from 217,628 last year up to 237,136.
Gold 585 rose the most seeing a 114% increase from 12,283 last year compared with 26,291 this year.
Alongside this, the number of platinum pieces hallmarked rose 10.2% from 24,812 last year up to 27,350 this year.
The number of palladium pieces hallmarked also rose, up by 31% from 378 pieces hallmarked last year, compared to 495 this year.
