Oushaba expands its Connection Salvaged range

Mobile phone circuit boards, charging cables, USB sticks and plugs are reimagined as rings, necklaces, earrings, cuffs and cufflinks, in unisex designs inspired by archaeological treasure

Oushaba has expanded its Connection Salvaged collection with the launch of nine new pieces.

Connection Salvaged, the debut collection from Oushaba, explored the relationship between the โ€œtechnology that connects us and the precious resources discarded as a resultโ€.

Each of the nine new pieces see recycled e-waste reimagined as wearable art, continuing the theme of โ€œseeing opportunity where others see wasteโ€, which is core to the brandโ€™s philosophy.

The collection features fragments of repurposed electronic waste housed in recycled 22kt yellow gold, 18kt white gold and silver combined with sustainably sourced diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires.

Handcrafted by goldsmiths in Sicily using components salvaged from obsolete electronics, each limited-edition piece combines traditional lost-wax casting techniques with modern materials that are not typically considered precious.

Created to order in limited editions, each piece is โ€œunique due to the one-of-a-kind nature of the salvaged e-wasteโ€.

Certain pieces can be personalised with initials, and customers can also commission bespoke jewellery using components from their own discarded phone. All precious metal is 100% recycled, sourced from industrial waste.

Every piece of jewellery is housed in a bespoke box created from sustainable or reclaimed timber, recycled fabric and cork, created in collaboration with London-based furniture maker Jan Hendzel.

A core principle behind Oushaba is that every collection should do good, so a percentage of the profits from every sale will be donated to a charitable cause.

The Connection Salvaged collection is available online at oushaba.com, with viewings by appointment at Oushabaโ€™s South Kensington (London) gallery.

Gillian Carr, managing director and co-founder of Oushaba, said: โ€œOne of our driving principles is to see the extraordinary within the ordinary. During the 2020 lockdown, when Oushaba was being envisaged, we relied on technology to keep us connected to our loved ones.

โ€œBut we upgrade our phones on average every 18 months, and 80% of e-waste isnโ€™t recycled properly, so it ends up in landfill. There are many beautiful elements found within electronics – including gold, but also the jewel-like colours and interesting details of the circuitry and electrical components. We wanted to challenge peopleโ€™s ideas about a material that is considered waste.โ€
