SaferGems, a UK-wide initiative combating crime in the jewellery, pawnbroking, arts and antiques industry, has appointed security specialists of UK Protection Ltd as an affiliate sponsor in a two-year deal.
The initiative is founded and funded by the National Association of Jewellers and TH March and hosted by the British Security Industry Association.
Launched in 2009, SaferGems provides targeted intelligence to help keep the jewellery industry safe and informed about the risks of crime.
Coordinated by a specialist independent team with direct access to police intelligence, the SaferGems initiative facilitates the sharing of information received from the trade and the police to alert members across the UK to the possibility of crime in their geographical area.
Full members of the NAJ and clients of TH March receive regularly updated bulletins, helping to keep their businesses and people safe.
Andy Fairbanks, managing director of UK Protection, said: “Having worked closely with SaferGems for over ten years, I was only too pleased to support the initiative and become an affiliate sponsor. Working in partnership with SaferGems has yielded numerous arrests and convictions of dangerous offenders, from fraud to serious armed robbery.
“I look forward to continuing our close relationship for the benefit of our clients and the wider Watch and Jewellery retail community. SaferGems has always been a valuable tool in combating crime, and we look forward to its continued success and expansion.”
Simon Dawe, managing director of TH March, added: “We are delighted to welcome UK Protection as a sponsor of the SaferGems initiative. Their support strengthens our collective efforts to reduce crime affecting the jewellery and watch industries and reinforces the importance of collaboration between security specialists and the trade.
“This support helps ensure SaferGems continues to provide vital intelligence, guidance, and protection to those who need it most.”
Ben Massey, chief executive of the National Association of Jewellers, concluded: “SaferGems is an essential resource for the industry, aimed at raising awareness and sharing intelligence to combat organised crime. We welcome UK Protection as an affiliate sponsor of SaferGems to support retailers, suppliers, and other businesses in the professional jewellery community.”
