Stokes England launches debut collection

Stokes England will launch its first jewellery collection ‘Interstellar’, a range inspired by the “geometry and beauty” of space at New Designers, One Year In between 26 – 29 June.

Designer Chris Stokes will launch his brand, Stokes England through his new collection of silver jewellery in a showcase of the UK’s top 100 new design businesses.

The collection on display has taken influence from aspects of space science such as its “geometric topology” and the “visual beauty of its nebula”. The range consists of elements that have been designed and 3D modelled using digital practices to represent these theoretical structures.

Many pieces are adorned with thin layers of vitreous enamel, gold and silver foils, a layering effect that allows for the embodiment of nebulous colour and vibrancy in each design. A selection of the pieces are fabricated with a more simplistic approach utilising freshwater pearls to represent “celestial bodies” with silver wire defining gravitational fields. The full collection comprises of a variety of designs from simple everyday studs to bold statement pendants and brooches.

Describing his methodology, Stokes said: “I enjoy the balance of creating complex structures in CAD and then embellishing the designs by applying enamels and experimenting with colour. This combines two different working methods that produce an architectural yet organic and tactile aspect to each piece.”
