The NAJ’s Better Business Support Service has seen a 72% durge in enquiries between June and July.

The hotline provides jewellery professionals with free one-to-one reviews for advice on HR and health and safety queries.

According to the NAJ, the hotline ensures businesses stay compliant in matters relating to health and safety, human resources, legal and tax through the use of advice lines and downloadable resources.

The association said it has seen a particularly “sharp” increase in HR and health and safety enquiries in the past few weeks.

Common enquiries include: making redundancies; flexible furlough schemes; staying Covid-19 Secure; up to date employee handbooks and avoiding employment tribunals.

Scott Williams, NAJ’s head of membership, said: “In a world turned upside down by Coronavirus there is uncertainty in the jewellery industry like many others, and this has been noted with a marked increase in calls to the Better Business Support Service hotline.

“The one to one review allows an expert, based outside of your business to look purely at the facts because sometime when you’re looking into an issue, there seems to be multiple options and it is hard to know which one to take.”

He added: “The one to one review can provide members with the guidance and support required, but also the assurance they’ve been advised via their trade association’s membership service.”
