Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale totals £33.2m

Christie’s New York auction of Magnificent Jewels, which took place yesterday (8 December), achieved a total of $44.58m (£33.16m).
During the auction, 95% of items sold by value, 91% sold by lot and 118% hammered above law estimate after a marathon 10-hours of bidding.
The preceding Jewels Online sale, from 18 November 18 to 1 December, totaled $2.5m (£1.9m) with 100% sold by value and 90% sold by lot.
Altogether, the December Jewels sales in New York achieved a combined total of $47.1m (£34.9m).
The auction’s top lot was a Kashmir sapphire and diamond bracelet of 43.10 carats, which was surrounded by 67.90 carats of D color diamonds that was purchased for $6m (£4.4m) by Harry Winston.
