The Alkemistry has announced the release of Iqra, a new “one-of-a-kind” collection which has a historical inspiration behind the pieces.

Translating as “read” in Arabic, Iqra adopts an ancient engraving technique but with a contemporary twist.

Customers can design their own unique necklace by choosing a gemstone and then personalising it with a meaningful engraving.

The message is directly carved onto the crystal and is then set onto an 18ct gold chain.

The necklaces retail from £595 and are available on Alkemistry’s website.

Kirstie Gibbs, The Alkemistry’s founder and creative director, said: “My partner is of Middle Eastern origin and he and his family own beautiful rings with carvings in them – either with symbols or phrases.

“I wondered why we don’t see much of this in modern jewellery and began looking into the ancient carving technique.”

She added: “I was inspired to reinvent it in a cool and contemporary way. I feel very proud of Iqra as we did a lot of research and development, so it is a completely unique concept.”
