Spearheaded by former head of Alfred Terry Nick Kasler, the service will offer retailers the chance to telephone Shepherd & Taylor with a description of the piece, and receive an indicative offer over the phone.

The piece can then be sent to the company by special delivery where the offer will be finalised and funds transferred to the retailer’s account on the same working day.

Nick is excited by the new venture, saying: “Since handing over the reins at Alfred Terry, I have been looking at avenues in the industry in the spirit of giving something back and supporting my friends and colleagues in these challenging times.

“I know the predicament of turning away a customer who approaches you with an item of jewellery to sell. You cannot always take the financial risk nor have the funds available to buy it. A simple phone call means that you now no longer need to let your customer leave your shop disappointed.”

He also thinks the service will allow a more positive buying strategy, adding: “The additional freedom of knowing that you have an outlet for your unsold stock is also a huge boost to retailers. They can be bolder with their ordering and refresh their stock more frequently.”

Shepherd & Taylor CEO Howard Taylor is eager to offer the benefits already enjoyed by London jewellers to retailers across the UK, saying: “We have built up a reputation for offering a fair price for pre-owned jewellery and surplus stock. We now wish to provide this supportive behind-the-scenes service to more businesses, and have made the process as simple as we can, with quick turnaround time and same working day payments.”
