Goldsmiths’ Company to stage jewellery careers event

London’s Goldsmiths’ Hall will host what it claims is the UK’s ‘biggest’ careers event for students of jewellery and allied trades.

Make Your Mark, which will be hosted on April 17 and 18, follows on from its inaugural event last year which attracted over 800 students from across the British Isles and has been extended over two days.

The event, which is free to attend, is open to anyone studying on a UK-based precious metal related course, whether at degree level or a short course.

Theo Fennell, of the eponymous jewellery company, and Michael Wainwright, managing director of retailer Boodles, will be giving keynote speeches, underlining their commitment to nurturing talent and the future of the British trade.

Other features of the event will include a career zone featuring recruitment agencies, trade exhibitors, exhibition of students’ work, a tour of the Goldsmiths’ Company’s renowned library and demonstrations of diamond cutting, pearl stringing, enamelling, hand engraving and hand marking.

Dr Robert Organ, deputy warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office, said:  “Last year’s Make Your Mark was a bold experiment which proved a huge success and proved that there is huge demand for advice and inspiration among students wanting to set out on careers in precious metals.

“This year we hope to give students and their tutors an even more rewarding experience. We have brought together an extraordinary group of partners who want to share their expertise and passionately support the UK’s jewellery making, silverware and precious metal trades.”
