Midlands-based jeweller Lumbers has announced plans to expand its store with a £1m relocation and refurbishment.

The family-owned jewellery retailer said it will move from its current location to a larger showroom on the main high street in Leicester.

The move will see Lumbers increase in size from its current 600 square metre store to a new 1,500 square metre shop, as well as increase its customer offering with new designer brands set to fill the extended space.

The new store will include a jewellery, diamond and watch showroom, a VIP lounge, a gift department as well as a champagne bar.

Dominic Gomersall, managing director of Lumbers said: “I am extremely excited about the relocation and subsequent expansion of our store. Moving closer to the Highcross shopping centre in the centre of Leicester makes sense for us commercially and will give us the extra room to bring new brands into the store.”

The new store – which marks only the third move for Lumbers since its inception in 1881 – is expected to open in September this year.
