Luxury watch brand Vacheron Constantin has introduced what it claims is the ‘most complicated watch’ ever made.

With 57 complications the Reference 57260 has beaten the previous record holder the Patek Philippe Calibre 89, which has 33 complications.

The model’s name stands for the number of complications and the 260th anniversary of Vacheron.

The timepiece is a one-off pocket watch made as a commission for a private collector, and was created by three of Vacheron’s master watchmakers who spent over eight years designing and perfecting the piece.

Many of the watch’s complications, within its 18-carat white gold case, are entirely new to the watch industry, including its rattrapante chronograph with double retrograde action and its armillary sphere tourbillon which Vacheron explained is “technically exciting and visually dramatic”.

Vacheron described the watch as not only a “huge leap of imagination but a level of mathematical understanding and craftsmanship that is almost beyond comprehension”.

There are currently 10 patents pending on the timepiece.
