Jewellery chain F Hinds has announced it will officially close its Andover store after almost 30 years in the town.

The company said the decision to close the store, which will shut up shop on 27 May, was mainly due to the upcoming end of its lease as well as “economic pressures”.

There are four F Hinds stores within distance of the town – Newbury, Southampton, Swindon and Basingstoke – which the company hopes will be convenient enough to serve the Andover stores existing customers.

A statement from F Hinds said: “Details regarding the future of staff are yet to be finalised, but if they are willing to relocate and there are vacancies available, the company will do all it can to transfer them to one of their nearby stores.”

The decision to close the Andover branch brings to an end the company’s 30-year association with the town, after it initially opened on the high street in 1998. The jewellers then moved into the Chantry shopping centre in the 1990s and has remained there ever since.
