Fine jewellery exhibitioner Dazera has launched its first competition to reward the artistry of fine jewellers.

The competition is currently taking entries and is open to jewellers who have been recognised for their artistry in their work, such as JAR and Rene Lalique who have held exhibitions at national museums.

Dazera was born out of founder Domini Hogg’s desire to help creative designers like herself.

Jewellery experts Katerina Perez and Rachael Taylor have been enlisted to judge the entries, and they will to score each entry according to three main criteria: originality of design, ability to express and communicate an idea, and quality of craftsmanship.

The winners will be announced in advance of the Dazera exhibition in November, where Christmas shoppers will have the opportunity to buy directly from some of the award-winning designers.

Hogg said: “It’s not easy being an artist jeweller. People often think that because you are selling fine jewellery, you must be making a fortune, but it’s not like that. Unsurprisingly the materials are expensive, and the financial pressure to maintain a premium brand can be high.

“Jewellery is often appreciated most for its fine gemstones and exceptional craftsmanship, but much more rarely for the creative thought that has gone into it. The aim of the competition is to highlight the creative talent out there.”

More information can be found at the Dazera website.
