Describe yourself in three words?
Honest, dynamic, proactive.
When you were at school, what did you want to be and why?
A civil engineer, I always wanted to build and make things and it looked like an interesting career at 13 years old.
How did you get to be where you are today?
Hard work, determination and my excellent wife Alison. She has supported me and worked in the business since we started back in 1998.
Which aspect of your job do you enjoy and why?
Seeing the change of a window display that I have had played a role in changing, making the customer happy.
What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement is really forming Southern Gem Displays Ltd back in 1998 on a shoestring budget and it is still here 17 years later.
What is the best advice you’ve been given in work or in life in general?
To be open-minded and not be afraid of criticism, listen and take on all feedback, both positive and negative. Take time out to relax, spend time with family and pursue a hobby.
What is your next goal?
Now that would be telling, you’ll have to wait and see.
