Dundee-based Vanilla Ink, a studio that supports jewellers during the transition from student to professional, has announced the inaugural Scottish Jewellery Week 2014 (SJW).
The 10-day festival has been produced in response to and to celebrate the ever-growing jewellery community of Scotland, and will feature a programme of exhibitions, a symposium, city-wide studio tours, and a pop-up shop.
SJW will open with Making Jewellery Work, a free one-day symposium at Discovery Point in collaboration with the Scottish Goldsmiths Trust.
The day will include a full schedule of presentations and panel talks looking at the next step for jewellers at all levels, and the jewellery industry as a whole, in Scotland today.
Included in the event will be an exhibition showcasing the eight resident Vanilla Inkers’ collections, produced over the course of a year in their studio.
The exhibition has been described as a “pivotal point for the Inkers in launching their professional career” and will open with a catwalk and street party on September 12.
The festival will also feature a pop-up shop hosted by Tea Green, where Scotland’s creative talents can showcase their work for sale.
SJW will conclude with 15 years at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design’s – where some of the “best and varied” graduate jewellers to come out of Scottish art colleges in the past 15 years will showcase their work.
A statement from Vanilla Ink said: “With such an array of events and exhibitors, through Scottish Jewellery Week 2014, guests are guaranteed to experience a new side to Dundee and discover jewellers, artists and new works that they have not encountered previously.
