Porsche reveals first watches designed entirely in-house

Porsche Design has announced a new series of timepiece models – Chronotimer Series 1 – which it says form the first complete series of timepieces developed entirely independently by the luxury brand.

The pieces, based on the principles of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, will be launched in July 2015.

Porsche Design says the model versions of the Chronotimer Series 1 feature a “captivating” high-quality titanium case, offered in a variety of finishes and material choices for the strap. High-quality leather, high-tech fabric, titanium and rubber will all “add a personal touch to the individual references”.

Bezels in the Chronotimer Series 1 are available in black, titanium or 18-carat rose gold. The colour of the dials in black, carbon or deep blue gives each individual timepiece a unique appearance.

Porsche Design said: “The principles of the Chronotimer Series 1 correspond with those laid out by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche for the very first timepiece he designed in 1972, the black Chronograph I: optimal readability, technical perfection, the highest quality materials and a puristic design with an absolute focus on functionality.

“The new timepieces continue this tradition as puristic and timeless precision instruments.”

In 1980, Porsche Design created the world’s first timepiece made entirely in titanium, the Titanium Chronograph.

The Porsche Design Chronotimer Series 1 was developed entirely by Porsche Design Timepieces AG, based in Solothurn (Switzerland), and was also manufactured in Switzerland.

It is based on both the Chronograph I timepiece from 1972 and the Titanium Chronograph from 1980. The diameter of the case is 42 millimetres and the watch is powered by the mechanical ETA Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement with a power reserve of 48 hours and a date display at the “3”.

The black-tinted sapphire crystal case back shows the inner workings of the rotor and the timepieces is water-resistant to 5 bar.
