Car used by axe-wielding jewellery store raiders recovered

A car used by a masked gang who threatened staff with axes at a jewellery store in Leicester has been recovered by police.

The incident took place on Saturday, 14 November, when three masked men entered G Naran, in Melton Road, Belgrave, and threatened staff with axes.

Police said that the men used the axes to smash cabinet displays in the shop before taking a quantity of rings and bracelets. They then exited the store and left the area in a black Nissan Qashqai which was waiting nearby. Police said that no one was injured in the incident.

Five people were seen leaving the vehicle, which was recovered on Vicarage Lane, and running off through alleyways past Belgrave Hall and Belgrave Gardens and onto Thurcaston Road where another vehicle was waiting for them.

It is believed that this vehicle drove away in the direction of Abbey Lane.

Detective Sergeant Dave Speight, the investigating officer, said he would like to speak to anyone who was in the Melton Road area and saw the incident take place, saw anyone acting suspiciously just prior to the incident, or who saw the men making off from the scene or the vehicles.

Speight can be contacted on 101, quoting incident 441 of 14 November.
