Gemfields and Fabergé unveils ‘world first’ laser inscribed emerald

Gemstone supplier Gemfields and fine jewellery specialists Fabergé have unveiled what they claim is the world’s first laser-inscribed emerald.

The 4.11 carat, green emerald-cut gemstone was mined at Gemfields’ Kagem emerald mine in Zambia. It was then acquired and mounted by Fabergé as a custom-crafted item for the winner of a charity auction held by the charity Mothers2mothers.

The winner will also travel to Zambia to see the source of their emerald, as well view the mine’s local community projects.

The stone is laser-engraved with a secret message chosen by the winner, its laboratory certificate and a reference number. A magnification of around 20x is required to read the information and the process has no effect on the colour, clarity or other characteristics of the gem.
