The proceeds of the sale will go to fund The George Daniels Educational Trust and will mark an end to a great relationship which has seen Sotheby’s making many visits to George’s residence to catalogue the collection.
Organiser Roger Smith will be on hand during the lead-up to the sale, assisting clients in viewing the collection after making a presentation called “Reflections on a Watchmaking Pioneer” at Sotheby’s on the afternoon of 5 November.
Roger said: “George had a long-standing relationship with Sotheby’s and had been a horological consultant to their watch department from 1969 until well into his later years.
“This sale was planned with Sotheby’s many years before his passing in October 2011 and is a natural conclusion to that long relationship. Over the years, Sotheby’s made several visits to George’s residence to both catalogue and research his work to gain a full understanding of it.”
Further information and a catalogue of the items can be found on Sotheby’s website.
