Thieves flee empty-handed from attempted robbery

A group of would-be thieves smashed their way into a jewellery store in Wales last week, but ended up leaving empty-handed.

South Wales Police are now appealing for information following the attempted robbery at Jane Allen Jewellers on the high street of Merthyr Tydfil.

Police said that a blue Isuzu pick-up truck was driven into the jewellers shop at about 11:50pm on Saturday, August 8, breaking through the shutters at the front of the shop. Despite this, no items were stolen from the premises.

Police sergeant Meirion Collings said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the high street area after the attempted burglary occurred, and who saw the Isuzu truck.

“After trying to force entry to the jewellery store the driver drove off down high street in Merthyr towards the direction of Weatherspoon’s.”

Police said that officers are still working to determine how many people were involved in the robbery, however a 26-year-old man from Methyr Tydfil has been arrested in connection with the incident.
