Alan Henn, the former chairman of the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) in 1967, passed away today.
Henn was the fifth generation to join the family business of T A Henn and Son Limited in Wolverhampton. During his career, he represented retail jewellers and their position within the UK trade on multiple levels.
Previously, he was also chairman of the Jewellers of Great Britain and Ireland (JOGBI), from which would later become the Centinerary Trust, now part of the Benevolent Society.
Additionally, he was one of the original Registered Valuers, a member of the Antique Plate committee, and master of the Clockmakers company.
Henn was also made a Justice of the Peace in 1959 at 29 years of age, chairman of the Midshires Building Society, original founder of Beacon Radio, and a member of Rotary.
David Doyle, NAJ president, said: “I remember Alan well from when I first started in the trade as a sales agent and I used to visit him in his shop in Wolverhampton over 30 years ago.
“He made a great contribution to the NAG and several of our other trade organisations too in his lifetime and he will be sadly missed. We wish his family and friends well at this difficult time.”
