Ethical jewellery brand, Cred Jewellery, has brought back the single largest Doré bar of Fairtrade gold so far in response to growing consumer demand.
The bar weighed in at 15.517Kg and contained 82% gold and 16% silver. The next shipment, due in May and expected to be of a similar size, is already sold out, and Cred Jewellery believes this indicates growing demand for Fairtrade gold.
Since 2011 Cred Jewellery has only used fairtrade gold in all of its engagement and wedding rings. The 15.5kg shipment will be used to make around 4,500 rings.
Speaking to Jewellery Focus earlier this year Cred jewellery managing director, Alan Frampton, said Fairtrade gold gives consumers the knowledge of where their jewellery comes from.
He said: “[Fairtrade gold] gives you the knowledge the gold in your wedding band which is a symbol of love and commitment is actually made without inflicting grief and poverty on the people that actually did the work in the first place.”
