Jeweller in Rochdale held at gunpoint

On Thursday 10th May 2012 SaferGems circulated an alert when two men claiming to be from Her Majestyโ€™s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) stole ยฃ10000 worth of goods from a privately owned jewellery store whilst threatening the victim with a firearm.

A SaferGems member, having seen the alert, reported that he had that day received a telephone call from a person claiming to be from HMRC who stated they would visit the store the next day.

This information was passed to Greater Manchester police. Detective Sergeant Trevor Eaton said the police โ€œworked together with the jeweller and SaferGems to provide and open police presence in the Prestwich area, which prevented a serious incident from occurring.โ€
