It was announced on 15 March that Pandora will pay Danish Trollbeads £21.9 million for all intellectual property rights relating to glass bead designs created by Trollbeads founder Lise Aagaard.
The announcement led to speculation that Pandora would take over future rights to Trollbeads designs, however, Fable Trading, the UK and Ireland distributor of Trollbeads, responded by claiming and that the payment related only to a historic agreement between Lise Aagaard and Pandora.
Director of Fable Trading Richard Morfoot explained: “An initial misinterpretation of the facts has resulted in unfounded speculation that all of Trollbeads glass bead designs have been bought by Pandora.
“This is absolutely not the case. Lise Aagaard’s agreement with Pandora is historic and does not affect any future Trollbeads intellectual property rights. Lise has been awarded payment for designs and guidance she provided to assist Pandora when the company first started. The agreement has no impact whatsoever on Trollbeads.
“This highlights the fact that Trollbeads is indeed the original charm bead jewellery brand and that it was Lise Aagaard as its founder who mastered the techniques for the original glass bead designs. Trollbeads is renowned for its originality and creates unique and highly individual bead designs exclusive to the brand.”
