Maya Gemstones has launched its new Scarab collection and has added new pieces to its existing collections, Out of Office (OOO), The Odyssey and Lilbet.
According to Maya Gemstones, the Scarab collection is inspired by the scarabs found in Egypt.
It was a symbol of the sun deity Ra and was one of the “most popular” jewellery designs found inside pyramids. Maya said that they were believed to represent “resurrection, renewal, rebirth, protection, and good fortune”.
Each piece of this collection has been designed with two adjoining triangles, separated by a row of round-cut diamonds, representing pyramid structures where the scarabs were found.
The new pieces are made of 18ct yellow gold and come in plain gold triangles or black agate and are designed to “bring good luck to the wearer”.
Launched in 2019, the Out of Office collection features gem-encrusted pieces based on pencils, rulers and paperclips.
The original collection was launched in “classic” colour variations, with neon pieces and chunkier paperclip earrings being launched in subsequent years.
For summer 2023, Maya Gemstones has added black diamond pencil earrings to the collection, as well as new bracelets, including 18ct yellow and white gold pencil and ruler designs, with ‘Maya cut’ rubies and sapphires.
The ‘Maya cut’ is the brand’s signature, triangular cut of stone that results in less loss of raw material. It has 28 glittering facets and is patented globally.
The Odyssey collection was created to be a “protective talisman” collection, with a monochrome aesthetic, using both matte and reflective textures.
At the centre of each piece lays a glittering ‘Maya cut’ stone, which represents the Maia Star — the fourth brightest star in the Pleiades cluster, surrounded by the group’s “most luminous” nebulae, which makes up the shape of the pieces.
This intergalactic capsule collection originally featured a ring and an oversized pendant, but has now been extended with a “smaller” and “more intricate” pendant.
The new piece is adorned with “glittering” diamonds and has a ‘Maya cut’ spinel as its centre stone.
Lastly, the Lilibeth collection was made in honour of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Named after the childhood nickname used fondly by those closest to her, the Lilibet collection originally featured a diamond-encrusted morganite ring, as well as a glittering earring that could also be worn as an ear cuff, pendant or brooch.
The pieces are now available in deep pink rhodolite, with two new bracelets added to the collection.
One in 18ct yellow gold, with glittering diamonds and a ‘Maya cut’ pink tourmaline, and the other in 18ct white gold with sapphire.
On the new releases, Olga Pekarveskaia, London-based founder of May Gemstones, said: “Rather than launching big seasonal collections, we prefer to drop little capsule collections throughout the year; each one has its own unique concept and source of inspiration.
“We’re continually experimenting with different metals, stones, and techniques, so the capsule collections don’t stay as they are for long; we like to keep them fresh. New Classic will be the next collection to be extended, we’re also looking to add smaller, more wearable
pieces to Triangle Power.”
